The Emporia State baseball team didn’t score until the ninth inning falling 5-1 to Central Missouri on Sunday at the Trusler Sports Complex. The Mules won the series two games to one. The Mules started the game with single runs in the first and second before plating two in the fifth and adding an insurance run in the ninth. Kadyn Williams lashed a solo home run to right field for ESU’s only run of the game. The Hornets were outhit 11-4 and struck out 14 times in the game. Ian Lanik (2-3) gave the Hornets 6.0 solid innings allowing eight hits and four runs but took the loss. Head coach Brad Hill after the game gave credit to the UCM pitchers but said the Hornet strikeouts were costly.
ESU fell to 17-25 overall and 8-19 in the MIAA with the loss. The Hornets have added midweek games on each of the next two Tuesdays on the road and will head to Pittsburg State for a nonconference game this week. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
