US Senator Roger Marshall spent time in Emporia to visit new facilities for CrossWinds Counseling and Wellness.
Marshall toured the Sauder Family Center and spoke with CrossWinds administrators during his time. He was impressed with how CrossWinds has navigated significant changes in funding priorities the last few years, including the implementation of the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic model of care and reimbursement.
CCBHCs serve people needing mental wellness or substance use help, regardless of their ability to pay. CrossWinds CEO Amanda Cunningham says this new model has let CrossWinds meet client needs while adding staff to meet those needs.
CrossWinds is in the final stages of its over $5 million “Breaking Stigma, Breaking Ground” capital campaign to purchase and renovate the Sauder Family Center, long known as the Earl Center, and the former Emporia State Chi Omega house. Part of the fundraising will include the Celebrate CrossWinds Stand Up to Stigma comedy event May 3. Stephanie Anderson will have a preview on the KVOE Newsmaker 2 segment at 8:45 am Tuesday.
