For almost two decades now, the Annual Laps 4 Landon has seen tremendous results in support, turnout and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis and the 17th annual event held Tuesday evening on the campus of Emporia State University continued that trend.
Father of Landon Dody, the events’ namesake, Aaron Dody says every year he is blown away by the continued support of the Emporia and Emporia State University communities.
For the first several years of its existence, the event highlighted Landon Dody and his battle with CF but has since grown to include the families of eight-year-old Aiden Dreier and two-year-old Ren Dubree. Dody tells KVOE News he is proud to see the event expand and provide a platform to others, a trend he hopes to see continue for years to come.
Cheyenne Dubree, mother of Ren Dubree and a longtime supporter of the Laps 4 Landon, says being included in the fundraiser the past two years has helped to give her and her family great comfort through a journey she says can often be very isolating.
Amanda Dreier, mother of Aiden Dreier, says not only has the event given their family a sense of belonging, it has also helped expand the conversation on CF in the local community.
As always, Laps 4 Landon included activities put on by ESU students and student-athletes, a silent auction, dinner provided by Lazy Butt BBQ and snowcones. All funds raised through the event will go to support research through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
This year’s fundraising total is an event-record $14,200. CF is a genetic disorder that creates extremely thick mucus that can clog the lungs and obstruct the pancreas of those afflicted.
