The Emporia High baseball team went 1-1 in the McPherson Quad on Tuesday.
Emporia High fell 14-4 in its first game against Great Bend before bouncing back with a 10-1 victory over Rose Hill in its second game.
Against Great Bend, the Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead through three innings before the Spartans responded with three in the fourth highlighted by a 2-run home run by Chase Harrington. However, Great Bend answered with three in the fourth, one in the fifth and seven in the sixth for the win. Harrington went 1-for-3 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs. Madden Seidl took the loss on the mound, going three innings allowing five runs on six hits.
Against Rose Hill, Emporia High got a quality start from Andrew Ruxton. Ruxton allowed two hits and had two strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Emporia High led throughout scoring one in the second, and three in the third, highlighted by a 2-run single by Owen Ruge. The Spartans four in the sixth highlighted by a 2-run single by Rugle and RBI singles from Harrington and Ruxton. Emporia High tacked on two in the seventh. Owen Ruge went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Ruxton and Maddox Shivley each drove in two while Micah Gray went 2-for-3.
Emporia High is now 5-7 on the season. The Spartans will host Manhattan for a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday at Soden’s Grove.
