A former Miss Kansas is set to visit Emporia on Thursday.
SOS will be hosting 2022 Miss Kansas Ayanna Schumacher at 6 p.m. at Flint Hills Technical College. Schumacher’s visit is a part of busy April for SOS with it being Child Abuse Prevention Month as well as Sexual Assault Month.
Schumacher’s message is titled “The Story That Others Read.” Schumacher says she’s wanting to put herself back on the map for events in Kansas while she’s currently attending Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
SOS Executive Director Mickey Edwards Schumacher’s visit is important to hear someone else’s story that’s outside of the Emporia community. Edwards says SOS wants to build those connections is important to those who have experienced trauma in their life and builds resilience for success.
SOS’s next activity will be the community group ride in downtown Emporia at 11 a.m. on April 27.
