The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve has two notable events on its short-term calendar.
The preserve will have an Amateur Radio Day from 10 am to 2 pm April 27. Members of the Santa Fe Trail Amateur Radio Club will operate two amateur radio stations from near the preserve’s historic limestone barn and will talk with other ham radio operators from around the world.
The preserve is also gearing up for a BARK Ranger Day, also beginning at 10 am April 27. Residents can bring their dogs for a hike with a preserve range along the Southwind Nature Trail. BARK Ranger pendants are available while supplies last.
In this case, BARK is an acronym for Bag your waste, Always leash, Respect Wildlife and Know where you can go. The preserve has three trails available for pets year-round. Another is open to pets on a seasonal basis.
The preserve is noting National Park Week, which is observed Saturday through April 28.
