The Emporia State football team wrapped up spring practice for 2024 with the Spring & Legends game on Friday night at Welch Stadium. The 2024 team scrimmaged for two quarters to start the night while drilling live tackling for much of the second period. The seniors off the 2023 team returned to receive their Heritage Bowl championship rings before alumni in attendance capped off the night with a flag football scrimmage. Head coach Garin Higgins declared it a successful spring for ESU football.
Senior defensive back Arich Ainsley says the team is raising its standard for 2024.
Senior wide receiver Tyler Kahmann benefitted from practicing with a new quarterback room.
And quarterback Chase Ricke is in a different role taking first-team snaps.
Higgins said that Ricke was in the lead for the starting quarterback job but that the decision of a starter would most likely be made in fall camp. The team will now hold exit meetings and the coaching staff will move on to fill any potential holes via the transfer portal before moving on to high school recruiting in the summer.
