The Emporia High baseball team was swept by Manhattan on Friday at Soden’s Grove.
Manhattan needed five innings to record a 10-0 victory in the opener. The Indians completed the sweep with a 9-0 victory in the finale.
In game one, Manhattan scored in every inning by getting three in the first, one each in the second, fourth, and fifth innings and four in the third. Emporia High was held to four hits with Luke Marshall going 2-for-2 at the plate. Chase Harrington took the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs on eight hits and three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.
In game two, Manhattan scored three in the third, one in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth. The Spartans registered two hits in the game. Madden Seidl took the loss on the mound, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on six hits and three strikeouts.
Emporia High coach Anthony Markowitz said there were positives from the doubleheader.
Emporia High is now 5-9 on the season and 2-6 in the Centennial League. The Spartans host Wichita Independent for a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday at Soden’s Grove.
