Two area athletes and a relay team recorded top-10 finishes in the high school portion of the Kansas Relays.
Emporia High’s Paige Newland finished eighth at the Kansas Relays in the triple jump with a mark of 36-0.25.
Lyndon’s Tanner Heckel finished 27th in the 100m (11.20) and was 14th in the triple jump with a school record 43-11.25. Heckel won the long jump and finished seventh in the javelin. Kaedin Massey finished 17th in the discus (153-7).
Northern Heights’ Ellei McCrory finished 11th in the 3,200m (10:48.98).
Chase County’s Tag Groh broke a 24-year school record by running a 49.56 in the 400m good for 16th. Chase County’s Madelyn Wilson finished 14th in the shot put (38-2).
Emporia High’s Sofia Rulvacaba finished 14th in the 2,000m steeplechase with a time of 8:29.32. Micah Sheffy-Harris finished 16th with a time of 8:39.47.
The Emporia High girls 4x100m relay team of Reagan Thompson, Marley Mullen, Kaylee DeWitt and Newland finished 61st with a time of 52.35. The Emporia High boys 4x100m relay team of Harry Trelc, Calvin Seeley, Blake Spellman and RJ Tabares finished 65th with a time of 44.68. The Emporia High girls 4x400m relay team of Harley Smith, Lauren Williams, Lexsey DeWitt and Thompson finished 45th with a time of 4:19.77. The Emporia High boys 4x400m relay team of Spellman, Trelc, Garrett LeBlanc and Tabares finished 57th with a time of 3:35.62.
The Chase County boys 4x100m relay team of Luke Budke, Brock Griffin, Wyatt Griffin and Tag Groh finished 64th with a time of 44.64. The quartet made up the 4x400m relay team that finished 27th with a time of 3:28.43. The Bulldogs earned a second run in the Sunflower Showdown of the 4x400m relay and finished fifth.
