Very soon, groundbreaking will take place on Emporia State University’s first new campus academic building in 45 years.
A special ceremony is at 11 am Wednesday for the Nursing + Student Wellness Center. The public is encoraged to attend.
The new 32,000-square-foot building will have a Simulation Hospital ASuite for specialty labs offering training in adult care, emergencies, obstetrics and pediatric matters. It will also have classroom and study space, a multipurpose area with a fully-equipped kitchen for lessons on healthy meal choices, conferene rooms and a dedicated student success center.
Students have been taking classes at Newman Regional Health’s Cora Miller Hall for decades, but Emporia State says the move on-campus will benefit the department in several ways. Students will be closer to the university’s success programs, while the program has faculty from nursing and other science or applied health programs on site to work together on different projects.
