The Emporia State baseball team’s comeback came up a run short in a 5-4 loss to Fort Hays State at Larks Park in Hays, Kan. on Friday night. ESU started the scoring with a Dom Oliverio single in the third, but the Tigers scored five runs on two home runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead. A Logan Myers single in the sixth plated two and Kadyn Williams homered to right in the ninth but the Hornets struck out twice with the tying run on second and the winning run on first to end the game. Seth Stover (2-5) didn’t give up a run in 2.0 innings but was charged with the loss for the Hornets as the opener. Myers finished 3-for-4 for ESU with two RBIs. The Hornets struck out a season-high 17 times in the game while leaving 11 runners on base. Game two is Saturday at 3:00 p.m. with the series finale Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
