Lyon County firefighters handled a fire Saturday that rekindled from activity earlier in the week.
About 12:30 pm, Emporia and Olpe firefighters were called to the 700 block of Road 30, roughly six miles southwest of Olpe and 15 miles southwest of Emporia. Emporia Fire Capt. Ben Lienemann says the fire restarted from controlled burn activity Friday, burning about 10 acres and an untold number of trees. Firefighters had the blaze controlled within about 45 minutes.
Wind speeds were under 20 mph during the firefighting effort, but that will not be the case Monday as gusty south winds increase to 40 mph at times. Outdoor burning will be strongly discouraged or banned Monday before non-severe thunderstorms move across the area early Tuesday.
