It was quick work for the Emporia High baseball team against Wichita Independent Tuesday at Soden’s Grove.
Emporia High needed six innings total to sweep Independent, 16-0, in the opener and 17-0 in the finale.
In game one, the Spartans scored 10 runs in the first inning and tacked on six in the second for the win. Andrew Ruxton earned the win going two innings allowing one hit and four strikeouts. Landon Wohletz threw a 1-2-3 scoreless third with three strikeouts. Ruxton also drove in two on a double in the second. Chase Harrington had a triple in the first.
In game two, the Spartans scored six in the first highlighted by RBI doubles by Luke Pitman, Madden Seidl, and Maddox Shivley. Emporia High scored 11 in the second highlighted by three RBI triples by Owen Ruge, Pitman, and Aiden Ewing. Luke Marshall earned the win on the mound, striking out four while striking out four and going 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs. Marshall said it was a team effort to get two wins.
Emporia High coach Anthony Markowitz said getting contributions from other players is gaining their confidence.
Emporia High is now 7-9 on the season. The Spartans host Iola for a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday at Soden’s Grove.
