Emporia High seniors Sheldon Stewart and Jacob Simons recorded a season-best finish on Tuesday in the EHS Invitational.
Stewart and Simons finished fourth with a 2-2 record. The duo opened with an 8-0 victory over Liberal followed by an 8-7 victory over Mill Valley’s No. 2 doubles team. Stewart and Simons fell in the semifinals to Piper, 8-3, and fell 8-5 in the third place match to Mill Valley’s No. 1 double teams.
Stewart said the two are gaining confidence at the right time.
Simons said the duo has ultimate goals with the postseason right around the corner.
Emporia High finished sixth as a team with 13 points.
Emporia High will next compete in the Centennial League Championship on Monday in Junction City.
