Aside from ongoing road work on Road F, there appear to be no immediate plans for development within Emporia’s Industrial Park IV.
That’s according to Emporia Planning Administrator Justin Givens who spoke with KVOE News Tuesday afternoon, just a little less than a week after Emporia City Commissioners approved annexing the approximately 147-acre property and the right of way on Road F into the city limits. Discussions on the annexation have been ongoing since late summer of last year when Lyon County Commissioners were approached to make findings that the annexation would not interfere with county operations in mid-September. Commissioners ultimately tabled the matter at that time in order to gain clarification as to who would be responsible for maintaining roadways in the area.
That matter has since been resolved according to Givens.
Lyon County Commissioners would make the finding that the annexation would not impede county operations on April 4 with city commissioners approving the annexation this past Wednesday. The purpose of the annexation was due to the city being the lead agency on an ongoing pavement project to convert Road F between US Highway 50 and Road 180 from gravel to asphalt according to City Engineer Jim Ubert.
Ubert tells KVOE News the project dates back to 2014.
Ubert anticipates the paving project to be complete by the late fall. As previously mentioned, Givens tells KVOE News, at least to his knowledge, there are no plans for any developments on the property at this time.
