Residents of Lyon and Chase County can take advantage of Free Landfill Days soon at the Lyon County Transfer Station.
The period of the 2024 Spring Landfill Days will begin on Saturday and go through May 5. Residents will be limited to one trip of 1,000 pounds free of charge. Any additional materials over the limit with be charged at normal rates.
City Solid Waste Supervisor Keith Senn says this is a good deal for residents.
Residents are required to present either a digital or a paper copy of their April utility bill from either the City of Emporia or from a service provider that serves Lyon County and Chase County addresses.
Senn says if residents come during the weekend, there will be longer wait times. He encourages people to come during the week if they can. Senn also encourages residents to secure their loads when coming to the transfer station to avoid any additional fees.
Transfer Station hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
