Wednesday is a huge day for Hornet Nation.
Formal groundbreaking starts just after 11 am at the site of Emporia State’s new Nursing + Student Wellness Building on the east side of Cremer Hall and just south of the Morse Complex. Scheduled speakers include ESU president Ken Hush, Emporia lawmakers Jeff Longbine and Mark Schreiber, Kansas House Speaker Dan Hawkins, donors and students.
The facility will move the nursing department from Newman Regional Health on campus and will provide numerous cutting-edge training areas, including a Simulation Hospital Suite, classrooms, conference rooms, a dedicated student success center and a learning commons area. It will also have clinical space for the Student Wellness Center, including health and counseling services.
The building will open by fall 2025. It’s the first new campus academic building for Emporia State since 1979.
ESU Foundation Director Shane Shivley will join KVOE’s 8:05 am newscast Wednesday with more details.
