Heavy rain and isolated severe storms blew across the KVOE listening area Thursday.
Storms in the early-afternoon hours brought quarter-sized hail just southeast of Council Grove and near nickel-sized hail to Cottonwood Falls.
Rain was scattered through the day, but some locations got some significant totals by mid-afternoon:
*KVOE studios: 2.35 inches
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 1.68 inches
*Ninth and Burns: 3 inches
*18th and Briarcliff: 2.65 inches
*Cottonwood Falls: 1.50 inches
*Allen: 1.70 inches
*Bushong: 3.46 inches
*Hartford: 2.7 inches
*1 mile east of Thorndale: 2.1 inches
*Neosho Rapids: 3 inches
Several flood alerts were announced Thursday evening. The Marais des Cygnes River near Reading is in a flood warning to early Friday afternoon, while parts of Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are in an urban and small stream flood advisory until 8 pm Thursday. Parts of Osage and Wabaunsee counties are in a separate urban and small stream flood advisory until 9:30 pm.
Water has been reported over the top of the following roadways:
*Z and ZZ Road in Chase County
*400 and Road N. Kahola Road in Morris County.
Storms also caused several small power outages near the Emporia Municipal Airport, in Dunlap and Neosho Rapids, between Lyndon and Osage City and about five miles west of Madison.
There are several potential timetables for severe weather the next few days:
*There is a marginal-to-slight severe weather risk areawide late Thursday night into Friday morning, with the slight risk area along and west of Kansas Highway 177. All hazards are possible.
*There is a marginal-to-slight risk for all hazards Friday afternoon and evening.
*There is an enhanced risk for all hazards Saturday afternoon and evening.
*There is now at least a marginal risk for areas east of Emporia for Sunday.

Showers, storms and severe weather are all possible across the KVOE listening area.
There are several potential time periods for severe weather through Saturday night, and TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers is urging people to be ready.
There is currently a marginal severe weather risk for Thursday morning into early afternoon, , mainly for quarter-sized hail, but TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says there is a better chance of storms and severe weather after sunset. Thursday night has a marginal overall risk for hail and wind areawide and a low-end tornado risk west of Kansas Highway 99.
Friday afternoon and evening involves a marginal to enhanced risk southwest to northeast across the area. All hazards are possible, especially just northeast of Emporia.
Saturday is also an all-hazards risk day, with an enhanced-level posted areawide.
Heavy rain is also possible through the upcoming weekend. Meyers says there could be some locations getting 2-4 inches of rainfall by Sunday evening. Rain totals as of lunchtime:
