Additional tornado watches have been issued for portions of the KVOE listening area including Lyon County.
The watch affects Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee counties until 9 pm Friday. This comes on top of a previously issued watch for Greenwood County also until 9 pm Friday.
In addition to the tornado risk, strong to severe storms could also bring high winds as high as 60 mph at times as well as large hail up to two plus inches in diameter. Heavy rainfall is also expected and will be through the weekend with more severe storm chances possible now through Sunday.
A flood watch for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties goes from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning with a flood warning currently in place for the Neosho River near Emporia through Saturday morning.

Severe weather-related advisories continue to be issued for the KVOE listening area.
The latest, a tornado watch, affects Greenwood County from now until 9 pm Friday. Along with the risk of tornadoes, any storms that develop could also include wind gusts as high as 60 mph and hail up to 2 plus inches in diameter.
The tornado watch comes on top of a pair of flood-related advisories, a flood watch for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning and a flood warning for the Neosho River near Emporia through Saturday morning. Severe storm chances will continue through the upcoming weekend with an enhanced risk for severe storms Saturday afternoon through the late evening hours.

2:14 pm Friday: WEATHER: Flood watch issued for Lyon and most surrounding counties Saturday through Sunday with more heavy rainfall expected through the weekend
Several forecasted rounds of heavy rainfall through the weekend have led to a flood watch issuance for much of the KVOE listening area.
Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are covered by the watch from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. The watch follows a Friday through Saturday morning flood warning for the Neosho River.
As of 1 pm, the river was at 16.2 feet below the flood stage of 19 feet. The river is expected to go above the 19 ft threshold by late Friday afternoon, possibly cresting at 19.4 feet before returning to below flood stage before midnight.
Meanwhile, with the risk of severe weather and flooding through the upcoming weekend, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has issued a verbal state of disaster emergency.
This action activates the Kansas Response Plan, expediting state agency help to communities that need it.
The State Emergency Operations Center has also been activated through the weekend.

9:30 am Friday: WEATHER: Flood warning announced for Neosho River at Emporia as severe weather remains possible through Sunday
Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible for the KVOE listening area Friday.
After a day that saw heavy rain scattered through Thursday and isolated hail early Thursday afternoon, TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says the afternoon and early evening may be the best times for severe weather Friday.
All hazards are possible Friday, but Meyers says large hail looks to be the main concern.
Severe weather still looks possible for Saturday and Sunday as well.
Heavy rain is possible through the weekend, and the National Weather Service has posted a flood warning for the Neosho River at Emporia from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning. The river at 7 am Friday was at 15.8 feet, below flood stage of 19 feet. It is expected to go above flood stage late Friday afternoon, crest at 19.4 feet Friday evening and go below flood stage before midnight.

Widespread heavy rain and isolated hail began a potentially extended period of unsettled weather Thursday.
Scattered showers and occasionally-intense thunderstorms dropped a lot of rain areawide:

*Emporia Municipal Airport: 1.68 inches
*Ninth and Burns: 3 inches
*1100 block Constitution: 2.35 inches
*18th and Briarcliff: 2.65 inches
*Cottonwood Falls: 1.50 inches
*2 miles south of Admire: 3.25 inches
*Allen: 2.1 inches
*Bushong: 3.46 inches
*Americus: 2.75 inches
*Hartford: 2.7 inches
*Lake Kahola: 2.61 inches
*1 mile east of Thorndale: 2.1 inches
*Neosho Rapids: 3 inches
*Reading: 3.5 inches
The Marais des Cygnes River above Reading was briefly in a flood warning Thursday night but that has been canceled. Parts of Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties were also in urban and small stream flood advisories Thursday afternoon and evening. Those have all expired.
In addition, water was reported over several Chase and Morris county roads immediately surrounding Lake Kahola. Low-water crossings were impassable around the lake for a time Thursday.
Looking ahead, TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers is looking at the early-afternoon to early-evening time period for Friday’s main severe weather risk.
Severe weather still looks possible for the mid-afternoon to late-evening hours Saturday. All hazards are possible, with an enhanced risk for the area.
Sunday now has a marginal-to-slight severe weather risk areawide, with areas along and east of Kansas Highway 99 in the slight risk area. All hazards are currently possible Sunday.
