Emporia’s Kansas Children’s Service League had a special open house Thursday.
Residents interested in the longstanding KCSL Healthy Families program had a chance to learn more about how it works and who it helps. Local director Lisa Harder says Healthy Families is designed to help families with a health and safety curriculum so they can either avoid neglect, abuse and trauma or get out of that cycle.
Harder says the Healthy Families program is part of the KCSL mission to protect and promote the wellbeing of children. It works with qualifying parents and guardians of young children — ages 3 and under — with a range of risk factors, including a lack of parenting skills, illnesses, unemployment, abuse, neglect and/or a history of so-called adverse childhood experiences. KCSL workers provide home visits for regular coaching and information on child development, screenings, community resources and other support services.
Parents and guardians can call 620-340-0408, go online to kcsl.org or go to the Humanitarian Center for more information.
