Campus plans are part of the Newman Regional Health Board of Trustees’ strategic planning retreat Monday, according to Chief Executive Officer Cathy Pimple.
The retreat comes shortly after Emporia State broke ground on its new $23 million Nursing + Student Wellness Center, setting the stage to vacate Cora Miller Hall by August 2025. Pimple has said there are no immediate plans to fill Cora Miller, but conversations will continue on that topic.
This also comes as word is pending on mediated conversations between Newman Regional Health and Stormont-Vail Health, as Stormont has proposed a better than $30 million medical facility in Emporia and Newman Regional has countered with a string of requested zoning code text changes to both add local oversight and protect its financial interests.
Board members will meet at the hospital from 8:30 am to 3 pm, and Pimple says the overall plan is to align the hospital’s priorities and “establish a strong focus” for hospital operations going forward. A full strategic plan is still several months away.
