The Emporia High baseball team was swept by Hayden on Monday afternoon in Topeka.
Hayden won the opener, 5-3, with a 3-run sixth being the difference. The Wildcats took the finale, 14-4, in five innings.
In game one, Hayden jumped out to a 2-0 lead through one before Emporia High got one in the second on an RBI single by Madden Seidl and two in the third on a pair of RBI singles by Micah Gray and Owen Ruge. Andrew Ruxton took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs on eight hits and four strikeouts in six innings. Ruge went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
In game two, Hayden scored one in the first, five in the second and three in the third before Emporia High got on the board. The Spartans got three in the fourth on an RBI single by Grady Howe, Aiden Ewing scoring on a passed ball and an RBI single by Gray. Luke Marshall had an RBI single in the fifth to wrap up the scoring. Chase Harrington took the loss on the mound, allowing nine runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings. Gray went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
Emporia High is 8-12 on the season. The Spartans conclude the regular season this weekend with the Spartan Classic at Soden’s Grove. Emporia High will play Andover Central at 7 p.m. Friday and St. Thomas Aquinas at 2 p.m. Saturday.
