In two weeks, Flint Hills Technical College will be starting up its newest program.
FHTC will be offering a new Commercial Driver’s License program which will allow students an opportunity to gain either their class A or B license. The program is being funded by an allocation from the state of Kansas with the training being overseen by the Kansas Department of Revenue and lead trainer Eric Crook a professional with over 30 years of experience in the field.
Crook recently spoke with KVOE News and says the CDL program was the result of changes at the Federal level.
In a news release from FHTC, Crook stated the program is “a gateway to a world of opportunities” including long and short-haul trucking, municipal transportation, school transportation and more. Crook adds that those who obtain their CDL can also explore career paths not strictly behind the wheel.
Crook also says there is no better location for the program than in Emporia.
The first course is set to begin Monday, May 13 and will last approximately six weeks. Crook says current plans are to offer six courses over the calendar year with room for about eight students per class.
The program is open to all residents regardless if they are currently enrolled at FHTC or not. For more information on the CDL program visit FHTC.edu or call the college at 620-343-4600.
