The Emporia State baseball team was outhit for the third time in the series and couldn’t overcome it in an 8-3 loss to Newman on Monday afternoon at the Trusler Sports Complex. Emporia State entered the day needing a win to make the MIAA Tournament as the No. 7 seed while a loss would end the season for the Hornets. The game started well for ESU with two runs in the first following three-straight singles. The Jets popped off with four runs in the third to take a lead they wouldn’t lose. ESU got one back on a Logan Myers leadoff home run in the third but wouldn’t score again while stranding eight runners on base. Seth Stover lasted 3.0 innings but took the loss for ESU. Head coach Brad Hill said E-State couldn’t sustain a good start.
The Jets outhit the Hornets 14-7 in the game. The Hornets end the year 21-29 with an 11-22 record in conference play.
