Two Emporia High teams were in action on Tuesday and were able to compete before the weather played a factor.
The Emporia High girls soccer team fell 3-0 to Washburn Rural as the game was called after 28 minutes of play due to weather. Emporia High is now 8-4-1 on the season and will next be in action on Friday at Augusta.
The Emporia High softball team was playing a doubleheader against Topeka High at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka. The first game was halted in the bottom of the fourth with Topeka High leading 7-4. Emporia High jumped out to a 2-0 on a 2-run single by Maedeen McClure. Topeka High responded with two in the bottom of the first. Emporia High regained the lead in the third as McClure was hit by a pitch and was followed by an RBI groundout by Ryane Howe. Topeka High tied the game at four on a triple and recorded back-to-back home runs. No make-up date has been announced for the resumption of the doubleheader. Emporia High will host the Spartan Classic this weekend at Peter Pan Park. The Lady Spartans will play Life Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Blue Valley Southwest at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
