Osage County authorities are working with counterparts at the local and federal levels on what they say is a child sex investigation.
Osage County Sheriff Chris Wells says the investigation involves police departments in Garnett, Osage City and Ottawa as well as Osage County deputies and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is now presiding.
Wells says the investigation also involved a search warrant at 633 1/2 Ellinwood in Osage City back on Feb. 28. Wells says the apartment was the home of 28-year-old Nicholas Engelbert.
Wells does not mention Engelbert as a possible suspect or person of interest in this case, but Engelbert was charged briefly in Franklin County with aggravated internet trading in child pornography and sexual exploitation of a child — allegedly involving a child under the age of 14. The state case was dismissed last month so federal charges could be filed.
