Emporia Police officers say the driver of a car that crashed on the Emporia State University campus Wednesday has died.
Officers from both Emporia Police and ESU Police and Safety responded to 12th and Mechanic after a car crashed into a tree near Roosevelt Hall and Beach Music Hall. Officers say the car was northbound on Mechanic, but the driver failed to stop at East 12th and crossed the street before hitting the tree.
The driver was taken to Newman Regional Health and died at the hospital.
Officers say they are not releasing the driver’s identity to the public due to the nature of the wreck. There is no word on whether there was a medical incident involved or whether speed was part of the crash.

One person suffered apparently significant injuries after a crash on the Emporia State University campus.
Emporia Police and ESU Police and Safety are investigating after the wreck, which happened outside Roosevelt and Beach Music Hall around 12:30 pm. The car hit a tree well away from East 12th.
