With tornadoes and other forms of severe weather affecting Kansas, especially the last two weeks, the US Department of Agriculture’s Kansas Rural Development office is asking residents from rural communities to apply for available loans and grants so they can offset at least some repair costs.
The funding is through the 504 Home program as part of the federal government’s Single Family Housing Repair Loans and Grants line item, which has money available for storm damage repairs or for storm shelter construction, especially for very-low-income homeowners or elderly residents. Low-interest loans can be approved for up to $40,000, while grants can be approved for up to $10,000 — and residents can benefit from a combination loan-grant package.
