Formal charges are pending following an early morning vehicle pursuit in South Emporia Thursday.
According to Emporia Police Captain Ray Mattas, the pursuit began after an Emporia Police Officer initiated a stop on a red 2005 Infinity passenger car for an alleged traffic violation around 1 am. The vehicle refused to stop leading to the chase which lasted approximately one minute and covered only a “few blocks” from the scene of the attempted stop.
Mattas says the driver of the vehicle, identified as 18-year-old Zachary Russell, voluntarily stopped and was arrested on suspicion of flee and elude and DUI. Russell was taken to the Lyon County Jail where he remains at last word.
Charges have been submitted to the Lyon County Attorney’s Office for review.
