One of Emporia’s most well-known lodging establishments is on the market.
The Gufler Mansion, 612 West 12th, was listed as for sale Friday.
The mansion was built in 1916 and has been owned by Brad and Susan Cochennet since 2016, but they tell KVOE News they are reluctantly putting the property up for sale now. Susan Cochennet is splitting time at Emporia State and CrossWinds Counseling and Wellness, and is taking time as well to care for her mother.
Part of the reason the Cochennets bought the Gufler was so Brad Cochennet could have an all-encompassing space for his mother, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease.
The Gufler has around 10,000 square feet of total living area, including 12 bedrooms and 8.5 baths. The bed-and-breakfast has been busy since the Cochennets took over, including a wedding this weekend. It is currently full for the upcoming NCAA Division II track and field championships and for Unbound Gravel.
The Cochennets say there is already interest in the building, but they would like the next owner to keep the Gufler as a bed-and-breakfast so they are keeping it fully furnished in hopes of making this a turnkey transfer.
