Just “Howe” excited is Visit Emporia Director LeLan Dains for the first-ever Howe Hoist this upcoming Sunday?
His back may disagree, but Dains says he’s quite excited for what’s to come — in large part because it fits into Emporia’s ongoing tradition of challenging events like Unbound Gravel. Dains is also pleased to see this event gain interest because of its historical connections.
The Howe Hoist is a partnership involving Good Muscle, Good Way Gardens, the Lyon County History Center and Visit Emporia. It is also being held in conjunction with activities through the Good Way Gardens event, meaning live music from The Matchsellers and information about sustainable living will also be part of the scene.
The premise is simple: lift a stone of 100, 200, 250 or 300 pounds onto a 3.5-foot pedestal. Successful lifts will get the competitor in the Howe House Registry.
Cost is $10 to lift one stone or $30 to attempt all four weights, with proceeds benefiting Good Way Gardens.
