Now that his basketball coaching career is over, Bill Nienstedt is looking at a career in public service.
Nienstedt has announced a campaign for Lyon County Commission District 3, serving southern Lyon County.
Nienstedt coached girls basketball at Lebo, taking them to a state championship, as well as Emporia and — most recently — Madison. He has also worked as an American government and history teacher and counselor during his education career. Nienstedt tells KVOE News his initial goal, if elected, is to ensure tax dollars are spent wisely.
Nienstedt, a Democrat, is now set up for a general election campaign against Republican Chris Bartel. The district is currently represented by Republican Rollie Martin, who has not formally said whether he plans to seek re-election.
The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is noon June 3.
