Over a week after Emporia’s former Underground Utilities supervisor was arrested on suspicion of theft, a decision on formal charges has yet to be made.
Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman says a decision may come by Monday at the earliest in the case against Kevin Wiggins, who had led the department from summer 2020 to April 26, when he was arrested and subsequently fired by the city of Emporia.
Wiggins has maintained his innocence and was released from the Lyon County Jail early last week due to court rules on 72-hour jail holds.
Emporia Police have said Wiggins was arrested after suspicious activity on city property last month began an investigation that led to other parts of Kansas and as far away as Iowa. Officers have not said what Wiggins is accused of taking from the city.
