Missy Gannon survived a three-hole aggregate playoff to win her first Dynamic Discs Open on Sunday at Champions Landing. Gannon started the day in a tie with Hailey King for first and the two battled for prime position all day in Emporia. Gannon started strong with birdies on five of her first seven holes to go out in -5 while King had one bogey on her card to trail by one. Gannon didn’t have a birdie on the back nine with two bogeys while King made two birdies but bogeyed the 18th hole to send the two into a playoff beginning on the 16th. Gannon’s tee shot was flagged initially as being possibly out of bounds but was ruled in and she nailed a 25-foot shot for birdie to stay even to the 17th. Gannon’s drive was clean but King clipped a tree branch as Gannon went 2-up to the 18th hole. King was aggressive off the tee but went out of bounds while Gannon’s approach shot landed within seven feet of the basket as she closed out the win. Gannon talked after the match about seeing her first shot of the playoff almost miss in the water on the island green at 16.
Gannon said winning in Emporia was special.
Gannon, who entered the tournament ranked #5 in the Disc Golf Pro Tour Rankings, picked up her first DGPT victory of the year with the win.
Edit: Gannon birdied the first hole of the playoff with King. The original version of this article stated she made par.
