Forty-two students at Walnut Elementary School will soon be published authors.
House of Morrow put on a creative writing program at the school which will culminate with a book launch at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Clint Bowyer Community Building. In the book, all students will have at least one of their pieces of work published.
Board member Linzi Garcia says a majority of the funding majority of the program came from the United Way’s United for Racial Equity Grant. Garcia says it didn’t stop from there for other local community members to get involved with the program.
The program met twice a week for five weeks where Garcia would teach creative writing and bring other creatives in to teach the kids about creative language. Those ranged from poetry, music, visual arts, and how to present the writing they created.
Garcia says House of Morrow would like to get other local organizations involved to implement other programs in other schools in Lyon County and across the state.
Books will be available for sale and serve as a fundraiser for Walnut Elementary and House of Morrow.
