In a resumption doubleheader from April 30, the Emporia High softball team was swept by Topeka High on Monday afternoon, 10-4 and 9-8.
The first game resumed with Topeka High holding a 7-4 advantage in the bottom of the fourth inning. Topeka High never gave up the lead by adding three runs in the sixth. Maedeen McClure went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Alivia Anno took the loss going six innings allowing 10 runs on nine hits and five strikeouts.
In game two, Topeka High jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one before Emporia High scored six consecutive runs. The Lady Spartans scored three in the third, Yzabel Ultreras stole home, and Clara Williams scored on an error and an RBI single by Ryane Howe. In the fourth, Molly Williams scored on a wild pitch and got an RBI single from Addie Kirmer and an RBI groundout by Clara Williams. Topeka High tied the game at six in the fourth before Emporia High regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Molly Williams. Topeka High responded with two in the fifth for an 8-7 lead. The Lady Spartans tied the game at eight in the sixth with Kirmer scoring on a passed ball. Topeka High got the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Howe went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Anno went six innings, allowing nine runs on 12 hits and two strikeouts.
Emporia High is now 6-14 on the season. The Lady Spartans conclude the regular season with a make-up doubleheader at 4 p.m. Thursday against Hayden.
