There will be a change in local representation in Topeka for the 2025 legislative session.
Longtime USD 252 Southern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Argabright, who retired at the end of the 2022-23 academic year last June, is now running for the Kansas Senate 17th District. He also raise Charolais cattle in southern Lyon County as part of his farm operation.
Besides education, Argabright says lowering property taxes, reducing the state brain drain to other states, honoring the service of military personnel and first responders, employment and fighting the fentanyl crisis are priorities if he’s elected.
Meanwhile, Jeff Longbine, who has represented the district since 2010, has announced he is retiring from the Senate. Longbine currently serves as chair of the Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee. He’s also vice-chair of the Joint House-Senate Committee on Pensions, Investments and Benefits; as well as the vice-chair of the Joint House-Senate Committee on Fiduciary Financial Institutions Oversight.
