Formal charges are on the books after an arrest this past weekend on alleged drug and weapons violations in Morris County.
Charges against 27-year-old Matthew Cain Hewitt follow an arrest early Sunday after an alleged domestic dispute investigated by the Morris County Drug Enforcement Unit. Hewitt now faces charges of unlawfully cultivating and possessing marijuana, possessing methamphetamine, possessing paraphernalia and criminally possessing a weapon by a felon.
Hewitt had his first official court appearance in Council Grove on Wednesday. Word on a preliminary hearing date is pending.
The Morris County Drug Enforcement Unit involves Council Grove Police officers and Morris County deputies.

Morris County’s Drug Enforcement Unit has arrested a Council Grove man on suspicion of drug and weapons violations.
The Sheriff’s Office says law enforcement from Morris County and Council Grove responded to the 1900 block of South 400 Road shortly before 1 am Sunday for a reported domestic duspute and arrested 27-year-old Matthew Hewitt on suspicion of domestic battery. Officers also found firearms in the residence, so they booked Hewitt on suspicion of possessing and cultivating marijuana, possessing methamphetamine and paraphernalia and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon where a firearm was used in a crime.
