The Emporia High boys golf team shot a season-best 303 to win the Emporia Invitational Wednesday at Emporia Golf Course.
Will Walker led the way for the Spartans shooting a -3 (68) to win the tournament by seven strokes over teammate Nolan Jacob. Walker said his short game was big for his round.
Hudson Sauder finished fifth with a 78. Jared Johnson finished 11th with an 82. Marley Harter was 15th with an 87. Cooper Rech finished 19th with a 93.
Emporia High coach Rick Eckert said he’s seeing his team continue to improve at the right time.
Southern Lyon County also participated in the tournament with Thane Schmidt and Kane Crisp finishing in a tie for 21st with a 95.
Emporia High will next prepare for regionals on Monday held at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Topeka.
