The Emporia High softball was swept by Hayden Thursday at Peter Pan Park.
Hayden took the opener, 9-7, before taking the finale 6-0.
In game one, Hayden jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Marley Sewell’s RBI triple in the first made it 2-1. The Lady Spartans tied the game on a bases loaded walk drawn by Alivia Anno in the second. Hayden scored three in the third and one in the fourth before Sewell had a 2-run single in the fifth to make it 6-4. Hayden added three in the sixth for a 9-4 lead. Sewell drove in her fourth run with a single in the sixth followed by a bases loaded walk by Ryane Howe to make it 9-6. Addie Kirmer stole home a passed ball in the seventh, but it was the only run to come across for the Lady Spartans. Sewell went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Anno went the distance, allowing nine runs on 10 hits and seven strikeouts.
In game two, Emporia High was held to three hits. Hayden scored one in the fourth and one in the sixth before scoring four in the seventh. Kirmer went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Anno allowed six runs on nine hits in seven innings.
Emporia High coach Tommy McClure said there’s still some learning to do with the postseason next week.
Emporia High finishes the regular season 6-16. The Lady Spartans will find out their regional assignment on Saturday.
