Tonnage was down a bit from year to year for the annual Free Landfill Days at the Lyon County Transfer Station.
Between April 14 and this past Monday, Solid Waste Supervisor Keith Senn tells KVOE News they had just over 500 customers and collected right around 92 tons of trash. For construction debris, the total was about 15.5 tons.
Senn says this was a good turnout, however, those numbers were down considerably from the prior year.
Senn says several factors likely played a role in the decrease, namely trash from Hartford not going through the station this year.
Senn adds that fluctuations in collections from year to year are not uncommon and says community events and notification of Free Landfill Days also play a key role in the final collection numbers.
