Formal charges have been filed and a first court appearance date is set for a woman who allegedly evaded law enforcement authorities before climbing onto the roof of an empty Emporia hotel several days ago.
Amy Worthy, 39, was charged with misdemeanor interference with law enforcement and will appear in court at 1:15 pm Monday following an incident Wednesday.
Emporia Police officers say they went to 2700 West 18th, most recently the site of the Clarion Inn before it vacated the space during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Officers say their plan was to serve warrants on Worthy, but she went to the rooftop and led a roughly two-hour standoff before she was arrested.
Worthy had at least two active bench warrants at the time of her arrest, with one warrant for allegedly violating a protection order in September 2023 and failing to appear in court. The other involves alleged battery on law enforcement, interference with law enforcement and second-offense driving under the influence in October 2023 and subsequently failing to adhere to bond conditions. Worthy had an arraignment hearing for the protection order case Thursday and will return to court June 13 in that case. She is set for a pretrial Monday morning in the law enforcement battery and interference case.
