Emporia State President Ken Hush says “there is a definite energy on campus” as the academic year came to an end with commencement activities Saturday.
Hush credits much of that to recent construction, notably the Nursing + Student Wellness Center, as well as the recent barrage of scholarship announcements for different programs — all part of the ongoing reinvestment process over the last two years.
In crediting the ESU Foundation for its work behind the scenes, Hush also hinted at several major scholarship announcements this upcoming summer, saying ESU will be handing out three to four times its normal scholarship dollars once these initiatives are finalized.
Regent Blake Benson, the featured speaker for undergraduates Saturday, says Emporia State is doing a good job of handling significant headwinds in place for higher education as a whole.
Regent Wint Winter addressed students obtaining graduate degrees Friday night.
Graduation activities continue at the higher education level later this month as Flint Hills Technical College has its spring commencement May 18 at White Auditorium. Most area high schools, including Emporia, have their commencement activities this weekend. Emporia High’s graduation at 3 pm Sunday will be live-streamed on KVOE.com and usd253.org.
