Members of the Emporia Fire Department held a short procession across town Friday, honoring one of their own.
The procession went from downtown to Station 2 as firefighters gave their support to a fellow firefighter who has been battling cancer for about a year. Emporia Fire says the firefighter has, unfortunately, transitioned to end-of-life care.
Area fire departments and local law enforcement held several public fundraisers on the firefighter’s behalf last year. Emporia Fire has not named the firefighter throughout his battle with cancer.
