The No. 2 seed Charlotte softball team scored seven runs in the second and the No. 4 seed Shockers couldn’t score until the fifth in a five-inning 10-1 run-rule defeat at Wilkins Stadiums in Wichita, Kan. on Saturday in the American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game. The 49ers scored a run in the first before blasting off in the second to knock freshman pitcher Chloe Barber out of the game without recording an out in the inning. Senior Addison Barnard did not register an at bat in the game and was intentionally walked three times. Bailey Urban drove in the only run for Wichita State in the fifth to score Barnard. Barnard hit six home runs in the tournament and was named the tournament MVP. She talked about her historic career coming to an end with the Shockers.
Barnard departs the program as its home run leader and is one of only six players in NCAA history with over 70 career home runs and 50 career stolen bases and is the only active player with over 80 career homers and 60 career steals.
The Shockers will await their postseason fate in the NCAA DI Softball Selection Show on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
