The Law Enforcement Torch Run is set for May 29 and 30.
Local law enforcement will pick up the torch from the Lyon-Coffey County line on the 29th, bring it to Emporia, and head south toward Greenwood County.
Emporia is one stop for the torch heading towards Wichita for the Kansas Special Olympic Games being held that weekend.
Lyon County Undersheriff John Kolesch says funds raised will benefit athletes in multiple aspects.
The torch will leave in Emporia on Thursday, May 30 when Ron’s Ride will also occur.
KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas says Ron’s Ride has evolved since it started over 15 years ago. Ron’s Ride started by riding from the Lyon-Coffey County line to Emporia and now goes from Emporia State to Olpe.
Before heading to Olpe, there will be a parade with the Special Olympic athletes down Commercial from 12th to 4th Avenue. Riders will continue down Commerical to Hetlinger before leaving Emporia for Olpe.
