Renovations of the Chase County Old School Development District are going faster than anticipated.
On KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 segment recently, spokesperson Lee Anne Coester gave an update on the development of the project. Coester says the development will turn into multiple useful amenities for the Chase County community.
USD 284 Chase County sold the seven acres, along with the old school and gymnasium to community members after the school closed in 2010. Initially, Homestead Homes was set to turn the district into low-income housing until funding fell away before developments began.
Coester says Frontier Homes came on board for the project and has been great to work with, making the right decisions to move the project forward. The Old School District will consist of 10 apartments, five one-bedroom and five two-bedrooms in the old school and a community center in the gymnasium.
The organization is set to hold the Old School Car Show and School’s Out Party on May 25. Along with the car show will be a craft fair/flea market, a cornhole tournament, and much more. There will also be homemade ice cream and birthday cake at 1:30 p.m. to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the old school and the 60th anniversary of the gymnasium. Proceeds will go towards roof renovations and heating and air for the gym.
The organization will also hold a fundraiser selling fireworks from June 27 to July 4 or 5.
