Long regarded as Emporia’s favorite sweet shop, the Sweet Granada now has a chance to be known as America’s favorite.
It was recently announced the Sweet Granada was among the nominees for the USA Today Top 10 Candy Stores in the country. The news came as a welcomed surprise to owner Kim Redeker who called the opportunity “unbelievable.”
The USA Today nomination is just the latest development in what has been a whirlwind few months for the local gourmet chocolate shop following a visit by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly last month and the opening of its new location in Kansas City at the start of May. Redeker says she is very humbled by the recognition at both the state and national levels not only for the business but her staff as well.
The Sweet Granada originally opened in the Granada Theatre’s south storefront back in November of 2004. The business would relocate to its now longtime home next door to the theatre back in October of 2013.
The Sweet Granada is among 20 nominees on the list with voting open now through Monday, June 10 at noon. Residents can vote once a day per device.
