Two of the three insurance companies serving as managed care partners for the state’s KanCare Medicaid program have selected to continue their work.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced contract awardees this week, including Sunflower Health Plan and United Healthcare Community Plan. Healthy Blue replaces Aetna.
The contract period runs from Jan. 1, 2025, through 2027.
KanCare currently serves almost 460,000 residents across the state. KDOE says current KanCare members do not need to take any action now, but the state says it will reach out soon to members currently enrolled in Aetna to let them know about their options to pick another insurance provider.
The contract partners, known officially as managed care organizations or MCOs, were chosen from a seven-company field through a Request for Proposal process starting in October 2023.
