A preliminary hearing in a Lyon County child rape case has been delayed.
Erik Armando Alvarez was originally set for a hearing Wednesday, but Judge Doug Jones delayed the prelim until Aug. 13 after prosecutors noted a scheduling conflict.
Separately, Judge Jones modified some of the bond conditions, allowing Alvarez, age 22, to prepare and serve alcohol as his current job or future jobs demand. Judge Jones also allowed Alvarez to attend church services along with his family, although he cannot discuss any case details with family members.
Alvarez was arrested in late April and charged with one count of rape against a child under the age of 14 and dating back to January 2021. The case details will likely be sealed throughout the court process, but the legal complaint filed on the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal says the alleged victim was 13 at the time of the alleged incident.
